In order to efficiently meet the growing functions of Yonkers General Hospital, the major spaces such as the specialty care, primary care and emergency care were relocated to take advantage of the main entrance direct access. The design approach emphasizes the focus on patients and their care.

The healing experience starts from the revitalized main entrance and enhances as the patient flows from one major space to another. A dedicated reception/waiting area opens into each major space and also serves as circulation space. These nodes eliminate unnecessary, tight, long corridors and suggest a more personal relationship with the patient and the patient’s care. The desired ambience of comfort, lightness and peace of mind come from pastel colors, soft texture, the design and patterns of the floors cape and the open spaces.
