ACB's design approach took into consideration two important elements
of the design. The first was the fenestration of the new addition:
an exterior material that would be compatible to both the new and
existing building. Second was the existing building, with its bold
roof lines, dictated the roof lines of the new addition. The entrance
had to be placed strategically at the junction where the new addition
met the existing so as to enable easy access to both buildings.
The facade with elongated windows curve toward the entrance creating
a soft break as it leads toward the entrance lobby, through the vestibule
and into a double height space with seating areas and a stair leading
to the second floor. There are seven chapels, offices, a state of
the art embalming room, a large gathering area and other ancillary
space related to the use of the facility. The existing building was
renovated and is now used for administrative services.
